Sacrifice has unknowingly been the constant in my family. Coming from a long line of first andsecond generation immigrants my family has traded time and community for success and opportunity. I did not discover the depth of this until I was 21 and was forced to finally talk about myself and how I show up in the world. My mom’s immigration journey consists of being distant from her loved ones, separated from her child, a yearn for success, a need to belong and a mountain of uncertainty. The decisions she made on her journey evidently had a big impact on me and the more I have found out about her story the more I saw myself in her and drew comparisons. I still do not know much about my mother’s journey from her perspective and itend to use the project as a learning opportunity. Being in an environment filledwith immigrants I want to share our story in the hopes of building community.
